We take the stress away by expertly securing your pool cover, allowing you to enjoy the off-season knowing your pool is properly covered, water tubes are placed and secured as needed, above ground pool covers are tightened with a winch.
LADDER AND HANDRAIL REMOVAL
All ladders and handrails are removed from the pool deck and properly stored. Other deck accessories are also safely put away for the season.
BLOW OUT AND SEAL LINES
We ensure that water is blown out from the filter, pumps, heater, and pipes. Then, we add antifreeze to your pool’s plumbing lines and securely plug all suction and return lines. This ensures your pool lines are properly winterized and safe from freeze damage.
DRAIN MANAGEMENT
We take care of removing all drain plugs from equipment such as your pump, filter, heater, and chlorinator. Additionally, we air-lock your pool’s bottom drains to ensure their safety throughout the winter.
OPTIMAL WATER LEVEL ADJUSTMENT
Your pool water is lowered to the ideal level for your pool and cover type, ensuring safety and structural integrity during the off-season.
SKIMMER PROTECTION
Your skimmer is safeguarded against freezing using a specialized Gizzmo ice compression plug or skimmer plate – non-standard skimmers are filled with ice compressors.

FILTER CLEANING AND WINTERIZATION
Your pool’s filter is meticulously cleaned. This involves backwashing sand or DE filters and rinsing off DE filter elements or cartridge filters with a powerful cleaning solution.
GAS SUPPLY MANAGEMENT
For safety reasons, we shut off the gas supply to your pool’s natural gas or propane pool heater. The electric is shut off at the breaker or quick disconnect for heat pumps.

A basic closing ranges between $300 and $500. More complex closings with attached spas, raised walls, or more advanced equipment will likely run you greater than $500.

Here in the northeast (Long Island), we typically close pools around October.
However, we recommend closing as late as possible so that the water temperature is lower (less chance of algae blooming under the cover when you close later).
We’ve even closed pools in late December – so it’s really up to you (reach out about our pool heater service if you want to extend your season!).
How do you close a pool by yourself?
Closing a pool by yourself is a formidable task – but with perseverance, determination, and some careful planning – it can be done. Here’s a general overview:
- Balance the water chemistry and add winterizing chemicals
- Clean the pool and lower the water level
- Remove ladder and handrails
- Disconnect the filter, pump, and peripherals
- Clean the filter and filter tank
- Drain, dry and winterize the plumbing (blow-out the lines)
- Turn off your heater gas valve
- Place the multiport valve in the closed position
- Install the winter pool cover
- Put the pump, chlorinator, and salt cell away for the winter
Should I shock the pool before closing it?
Yes, you should shock the pool before closing it. Adding sanitizer will help control any bacteria or algae that may be lingering in the water.
We recommend raising the free available chlorine level up to at least 3 ppm at closing time.
What happens if you don’t close your pool?
Don’t even think of not closing your pool!
Pipes and lines can freeze and burst, you could get an algae infestation, your expensive filtration equipment will get damaged…all bad things!
